Bring the songs and stories of the civil war to your library, school, club, or special event

The Civil War’s Sesquicentennial provides Americans with the opportunity to reflect on the importance of this pivotal period in our nation's history, and to consider the future of the most tangible reminders we have left: the music and the stories of the time.

The Times of Abraham Lincoln is a 45- 60 minute, interactive celebration in music and story of the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War and the Commander-In-Chief of the North: Abraham Lincoln.

Folk Singer, Storyteller, Musician and Music Historian, Mike Anderson brings the music of the American Civil War to life using Civil War era instruments of the men who fought the war. Stories of the formative years of the young man who became the 16th President will be artfully interwoven to create an educational, entertaining and memorable event.

While band instruments are most often seen with the music of the Civil War, multi-instrumentalist Mike Anderson will use the banjo, mountain dulcimer, jawharp, bones, and other handmade instruments to bring the songs alive and lead the audience in the singing of the classics.

We love having Mike Anderson perform in the Plaza at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. The music is great and fits perfectly at the museum; and Mike is also a wonderful educator & communicator. You are transported in time back to 19th-century America. The visitors get a great show, certainly, and also learn a great deal of information and stories about the 19th-century, the music of the time, the variety of instruments, lots of stories and some tall tales – all told by a genuine artist.
